Unemployment in Delaware continues to drop along with the national rate

Last month, and for the first time in a decade, there were less than 20,000 Delawareans claiming unemployment.

The jobless rate in Delaware dropped in May from 4.2% to 4%. Meanwhile, the national unemployment rate dropped from 3.9% to 3.8 %

Additionally, the First State added about 600 nonfarm jobs. Which means Delaware has added about 79 hundred jobs over the past year. That’s just ahead of the national average—Delaware’s job market grew one-point-seven percent between May 2017 and May 2018 while the nation’s grew one-point-six.

But this is according to survey data, and experts say they expect payroll data will indicate less job growth in Delaware once it is made available.
