Delmarva Power crews are trimming trees up and down the First State.
The utility is spending $14 million on the tree trimming effort.
And Delmarva Power communication manager Jake Sneeden says the goal is to keep the lights on this summer should a hurricane hit or a severe thunderstorm strike.
“We are trimming trees across 1,400 miles of aerial electric lines across our service area. Trees cause...and tree limbs falling into power lines and electrical equipment, cause about 40% of the power outages that our customers experience each year. So this is a critical effort for us as we prepare for hurricane season and the upcoming storms that we might experience later this year,” said Sneeden.
Sneeden says motorists can expect to see a lot of orange cones and safety equipment surrounding Delmarva Power trucks and crews as they work.
And he urges motorists to slow down if you see work being performed.
He adds should a storm hit, bringing down a tree onto a power line, call Delmarva Power immediately so that the company can send a crew to safely remove the branches - do not try to remove it yourself.
